The Mission is Ours

Title: Go and Make Disciples
Key Passage: Matthew 28:19-20 – “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Message:
After His resurrection and just before His ascension into heaven, Jesus gave His followers their final marching orders. This passage, known as the Great Commission, is not a suggestion or a special calling for a select few pastors and missionaries. It is the central mission for every single person who calls themselves a follower of Christ.

The command is to “go and make disciples.” A disciple is more than just a convert; a disciple is a student, an apprentice who is learning to live and love like Jesus. This involves sharing the good news (leading to baptism) and teaching obedience to Christ’s commands. This is a life-on-life process that happens in our neighborhoods, workplaces, families, and communities, as well as to the “ends of the earth.”

This mission can feel overwhelming, but Jesus doesn’t leave us with just a command. He ends with a powerful promise: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” The power to fulfill the Great Commission does not come from our own cleverness, strength, or eloquence. It comes from the abiding, empowering presence of Jesus Himself. He doesn’t send us out on our own; He goes with us every step of the way.

Application:
Who is one person in your sphere of influence that you can invest in this week? It could be through an encouraging word, a thoughtful question, sharing a piece of your testimony, or simply praying for them intentionally. Ask God to show you one step you can take to participate in making disciples.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank you for entrusting me with your Great Commission. Forgive me for the times I have been silent out of fear or apathy. Give me a heart for those who don’t know you. Show me how I can make disciples right where I am. And thank you for your incredible promise to be with me always. Empower me by your presence to fulfill your mission. Amen.
